Police reissue appeal over Bangor murder

Police in County Down have reissued their appeal for information over the murder of 36-year-old Mark Christie in Bangor last month.

Mr Christie was found on the road near the junction of Owen Roe Drive in the Kilcooley Estate, and the Millisle Road in Bangor, shortly after 11pm on August 22.

It has been reported that he was attacked by up to six men who may have been armed with machetes or hatchets.

Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or noticed two men running across Rathgael Road into the Clandeboye estate the next morning to contact them.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said that police were delighted with the response they had received from the public so far, and added that as a result of this, a number of searches have been carried out and items have been removed for further examination.

Mr Christie who came from the Whitehall area of Bangor, was given a suspended jail term on charges of assault the week before his murder, however police have not confirmed if the attack was linked to this.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
