Man released in Tobermore murder investigation

A man arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a Scottish man in County Londonderry in July, has been released pending reports.

The man was arrested over charges of withholding information in relation to the murder of 36-year-old Ronald Mackie, in Tobermore, County Londonderry on July 29 2006.

Mr Mackie, from Kippen in Stirlingshire, Scotland, was attacked by a crowd of men sometime between 1.45am and 2.15am on Saturday July 29, after a row broke out at an event inside the Tobermore United Football Club in Tobermore.

After being beaten, the gang left Mr Mackie in the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The victim was visiting family in Northern Ireland, and had been watching an Orange Parade in Maghera, before going into the Tobermore United Football Club, prior to his murder.

So far, four people have been charged in connection with the killing.

Teenager released over Tobermore murder
A 17-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Ronald Mackie in Tobermore, County Londonderry on July 29, has been released without charge. So far, four men have been charged with the murder, three have been released without charge, and one man was released on police bail.
