Residents rescued from nursing home fire

The Fire and Rescue Service have rescued a number of elderly residents from a blaze at a nursing home in County Armagh.

Fire-fighters managed to get the eighteen residents from the Rathowen Nursing Home in Portadown to safety after being alerted to the incident.

It is understood that the blaze broke out in the kitchen of the property at around 10.45pm yesterday evening while most of the residents were in bed.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Service said that he believed that the fire was started by an electrical fault.

Appeal After Masked Men Force Entry Into Home Of Elderly Man
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after five masked me forced entry into the home of an man aged in his 70s, on the Saintfield Road. Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

Home Safety And Crime Prevention Event At Belfast City Hall
A free home safety and crime prevention advice event is to be held at Belfast City Hall on Friday, 01 March. The Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has organised the event, which is free and will take place from 10am-1pm in Belfast City Hall. Complimentary tea, coffee and refreshments will also be provided.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Woman escapes injury as car plunges onto lough shore
A woman has escaped serious injury after her car plunged onto the shores of Carlingford Lough in Co Down on Thursday. The woman was travelling towards Warrenpoint at around 7.50pm when she was forced to swerve to avoid a horse and cart. The resulting swerve saw her car leave the road, overturn and land on its roof on the shore of the Lough.
