NI parties to meet with Gordon Brown

Northern Ireland's political parties are to travel to London today to meet with Chancellor Gordon Brown.

It is understood that the parties are to ask the Chancellor for financial funding in the event that a new all-party power-sharing executive next year.

Each of the parties will be given an allocated amount of time with Mr Brown when they meet with him at number 11 Downing Street, as they explain what they feel are key factors and priorities for the funding.

Following this, the Chancellor will meet with all the parties together to discuss the issue.

The parties are hoping to receive a package of around £5 billion over a period of five years, however it is not thought that any kind of an agreement will be reached today.

It has been reported that each of the parties are keen to lay the foundations for a package that would support the devolution process.

Premiers meet with NI political parties
Prime Minister Tony Blair and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, are meeting with Northern Ireland's political parties today in a bid to reaffirm the November 24 deadline on power-sharing. The meeting is an attempt to encourage politicians to reach agreement on reinstating an all-party power-sharing assembly.

Parties meet Reid for briefing on RUC reform package
Northern Ireland’s pro-agreement parties have held an intensive series of talks about reform of the RUC with the Secretary of State Dr John Reid at Hillsborough Castle. The meetings scheduled on Friday August 3 saw the Ulster Unionist Party, the Alliance Party and the SDLP meet with Dr Reid to discus the new implementation plan on police reform.

Pre-Budget Report good for NI, claims Minister
NIO Finance Minister, Ian Pearson, has described Chancellor Gordon Brown’s Pre-Budget Report as “good news for Northern Ireland”. Speaking on Friday, Mr Pearson said the report included “something for everyone” including those who are the most vulnerable in society.
