Further education lecturers to strike

Further Education lecturers are to stage a one day protest as part of the ongoing dispute over salaries.

Lecturers claim that they are being paid around £2,500 less than school teachers.

It is understood that employers have said that they are willing to bridge the gap, however the government has refused this, citing the current cap on public sector pay as the reason.

Similar strikes involving all 16 of Northern Ireland's further education colleges took place earlier this year, resulting in a number of classes being cancelled.

Natfhe - the further education union and Nasuwt – the teachers union have accused college managers of not doing enough.
