Teenager sentenced for injuring nurse
A teenager has been sentenced to two years in a Young Offenders' Centre after a court heard how he threw a rock over a motorway bridge in Belfast – badly injuring a nurse.
The youth, who was drunk at the time, threw the brick over the Hightown Road bridge onto the M2 motorway last February. It smashed its way through the nurse's car shattering her skull and shoulder.
It is unlikely that the woman will ever work again as a result of her injuries.
The youth, who cannot be identified because of his age, was on his way home with friends when the incident took place.
He later told police he had not meant to hurt anyone.
The youth was also told he would have to serve 12 months probation after his detention following his appearance today at Belfast Crown Court
