Appeal after Newtownards robbery

Detectives at Newtownards have appealed for information following a robbery in the town last night.

At around 5.30pm a man and woman were returning to the car park at the side of Ards Football Club on the Portaferry Road, when they were approached by four young men. One of the gang was armed with a hammer.

They took two laptop computers, a briefcase and a handbag from the pair before making off on foot across the Portaferry Road.

One of the robbers is described as being 17 to 18 years of age, about 5'5, with short brown hair, longer on top and with a ginger tint. He is also described as being pale with a flat face.

Elsewhere, a .22 rifle was found during a search of undergrowth last night on the Ballintemple Road, Killeavey, on the outskirts of Newry. The weapon has been taken away for forensic examination.

No arrests were made.
