STIs on the increase in Northern Ireland
There are not enough resources being provided to deal with the rise in numbers of people in Northern Ireland with sexually transmitted diseases, it has today emerged.
Figures outlining the number of people with sexually transmitted diseases in the province have been released today by the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre to coincide with World Aids Day.
The report, says that the figures show a steady growth in the number of HIV cases in Northern Ireland over several years.
The report also highlights a major increase in the number of people being treated for STIs, including those being treated for HIV, which has risen by 63 people last year, to 285 in 2006.
Overall, the total number of sexually transmitted infections went up by 12% in 2005,
180 of which were new cases of gonorrhoea – an increase of 47%.
Approximately 40 people were diagnosed with syphilis, with around 1,600 new cases of chlamydia being diagnosed.

BCC Welcomes Conviction Of Belfast Man For Dog Attack
Belfast City Council (BCC) has welcomed the conviction of a man at Belfast Magistrates Court for an offence involving a dog attack on a woman. BCC brought the prosecution against 43-year-old Stuart Grace, of Forthriver Crescent, Belfast, following a report that Mr Grace’s German Shepherd dog had attacked a woman, injuring her arm and back.

Northern Ireland Is Facing An Unprecedented Crisis – Alliance
The Alliance Party has warned that "Northern Ireland is facing an unprecedented crisis", after it raised serious concerns over proposed budget allocations. The Party's Finance spokesperson Eóin Tennyson MLA said Alliance recognised the need to do something and had chosen to "step up and govern" rather than let the situation deteriorate further.
