Woman assaulted in north Belfast

Police in north Belfast have appealed for witnesses after a 21-year-old woman was seriously assaulted yesterday evening.

The incident happened shortly before 9pm, when the woman, who had just got off a bus in Cliftondene Crescent and was making her way along the Alliance Road area towards her home, when she was attacked by two males who knocked her unconscious.

The assailants, who are believed to be aged 14 and 21, then made off with clothes and boots that the woman had just bought.

The woman sustained bruising to her face and head during the attack and was taken to hospital for treatment for her injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

The younger of the males is said to have been wearing a stripy jumper and jeans, while the older is described as being around 6 feet tall and was wearing a navy coloured Adidas tracksuit.

Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have any information in connection with it, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Man Arrested For Headbutting Female Police Officer
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Newry for assaulting a police officer. While responding to a domestic related report, a local female officer was headbutted to the head, which caused swelling and bruising. The officer was seen by medical staff and her injuries were not more serious and she felt well enough to remain on duty.

NI Man Jailed For Use Of Criminal Encrypted Communication Channel
A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to a total of 12 years for offences linked to EncroChat – an encrypted communication channel used by criminals. Michael O'Loughlin was arrested in 2020 following the search of a property as part of Operation Venetic, a UK wide operation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) designed to "dismantle EncroChat".

Police Investigate Armed Robbery At Ballycastle Supermarket
An investigation has been launched following the armed robbery of a supermarket in Ballycastle on Tuesday, 09 April. It was reported to police, that at around 11pm a masked man entered the Castle Street store carrying a spray bottle of an unknown substance. The man approached a cashier and demanded money, threatening them with the spray bottle.
