Police investigate spate of burglaries

Police in Lisburn have appealed for information following a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries between 11pm on Tuesday January 2 and 1.30am on Wednesday January 3 2007.

The first incident happened shortly before 11pm in the Glenburn area, when the householder disturbed a youth in a cream jumper who was inside the property.

The robber made off over a rear garden fence in the direction of Woodside.

At around 12.15am, a purse was stolen during a robbery at a house in the Old Colin area, while a short time later at 12.50am, a woman disturbed a burglar at her home in the Colinvale area.

The robber is said to have been wearing a shiny, black jacket and a baseball cap and was accompanied by three other males.

A few minutes later, a taxi was stolen during a creeper burglary in the Colinvale area. The vehicle was recovered a short time later after it was involved in a road traffic collision on the nearby Summerhill Drive. The occupants of the vehicle ran off before police arrived at the scene. No one was injured.

Shortly after, at 1.25am, two youths attempted to break into a property in the Colinvale area. The pair were disturbed by a neighbour and made off.

Detectives in Lisburn believe the incidents may be linked, and have asked for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious or have any information on those responsible for the robberies, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0845 600 8000.
