Driving conditions 'treacherous' after bad weather

Heavy snow has left roads across Northern Ireland treacherous for drivers, police have advised.

Roads in Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey and north Antrim have all been affected by the heavy snowfall and freezing road conditions. Snow has also made driving conditions dangerous for motorists in Newry and Newtownhamilton.

On the Belfast to Larne Road today, there was a tailback of three miles in each direction after three lorries were brought to a halt by the inclement conditions.

There have also been delays on the rail network whilst Stena has cancelled its high-speed ferry services from Belfast for the time being.

Citybus have said that some services have been affected due to the weather and so delays should be expected.

Ulsterbus meanwhile has cancelled Newtownards town services and there is a bus substitution service after rail journeys were discontinued between Coleraine and Portrush.

With the bad weather set to continue, the Met Office has warned motorists to take extra care.
