Campaign launched to save Belfast festival

Whilst Belfast Festival at Queen's has repeatedly broken all box office records in recent years bringing international acts from all around the world to Belfast, the festival is in grave danger of ending due to continued funding cuts.

Queen's University has revealed that it has thrown its support behind a campaign launched today by the Belfast Telegraph to save the festival.

The 'Save Belfast Festival' campaign follows a series of crisis meetings with the festival's major funders aimed at securing its future by January 31 2007.

Queen's has already received hundreds of messages of support for the festival and as part of its campaign, the University is communicating these in an on-line petition to the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure, Maria Eagle.

You can help to save the festival by signing up to the on-line petition on the 'Save Belfast Festival' website accessed via the link on the University's homepage www.qub.ac.uk
