Gang linked to south Belfast burglary spree

Police are investigating six burglaries in south Belfast and the Lisburn area, which they suspect may be linked.

At around 2:45am in the Milltown Avenue area four men gained entry to a house and assaulted the occupant twice. They demanded car keys and then returned later to break a window.

Later at 3:45am four youths attempted to steal a car at Cloonagh Park in Dunmurry. They damaged the vehicle before making off in a white car.

Then at around 4:00am several men tried to force their way into a house in Priory Park near Finaghy, but were thwarted by the occupants. There was also an attempt to steal a car at a nearby house, and at a third house in the same area windows were smashed.

At 4:10am police were called to Newforge Dale where four youths were spotted attempting to break into a car.

A police spokesperson said that two people had been arrested and are helping police with their inquiries.
