Man remanded in connection with Keady murders
A 57-year-old man has appeared in Newry Magistrates court charged in connection with the murders of two people in County Armagh in November last year.
Colum Smith, 57, from Mowham in County Armagh, is the father of four men who were admitted to hospital with severe burns just hours after an arson attack which resulted in the deaths of Thomas O'Hare, 33, and his partner Lisa McClatchey, 21.
Mr Smith is accused of taking his sons out of Northern Ireland while believing them to be guilty of attempted murder.
He is also accused of taking the car to a scrapyard for disposal the day after the fire.
He made no response when the charges were put to him in court and was remanded in custody to appear again later this month.
Thomas O'Hare and Lisa McClatchey both died from their injuries, after a gang of up to six men broke into their home in the Foley Road area of Tassagh in Keady on November 6 2006, assaulted them, before dousing them in petrol and setting them alight.
A number of people have been questioned in connection with the murders, however only one man has been charged with perverting the course of justice and withholding information.
