Garda officer suspended over 'abuse' claims

A police officer in the Irish Republic has been suspended from duty as part of an investigation into alleged sex abuse.

The trainee garda has been suspended from duty following claims a 14-year-old was abused by a number of men.

Two people were also arrested as part of the investigation and released on Friday.

The investigation allegedly was launched after the boy's mother complained to police, after finding 'inappropriate' text messages on her son's phone.

A Garda spokesman, said: "We can confirm we are carrying out an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy and that a serving member of An Garda Siochana has been suspended as part of the investigation."
