Petrol bombs thrown during disturbances in Ardoyne

Rival groups have clashed last night in north Belfast with petrol bombs, stones and bottles being thrown shortly after 8.30pm.

A police vehicle was also stoned during the attack, however there were no reported injuries.

The incident follows disturbances in the area on Saturday night.

The area is now described as being calm.

North Belfast priest Father Aidan Troy, told reporters: “There has been unease in this area for a few weeks, but that does not justify anything.

“I worked with others to try and ensure that whoever was on the streets went home and stopped persecuting people.”
