Minister welcomes new Omagh hospital progress

Progress continued in delivering the new £150 million hospital in Omagh with the announcement that tenders were being invited for its construction.

Health Minister, Paul Goggins, congratulated the Trust in reaching this important milestone.

He said: “The vision for the future of hospital services in particular, and health and social care services generally, in the South West is now at a crucial point. This important development reinforces my commitment to the future of health and social care services for people in that area.

“The Trust has made excellent progress towards delivering a brand new local hospital, which will complement the new health and care centre. This will include primary care services as well as a new mental health facility.”

The new local hospital complex will provide important local services including outpatient clinics, day surgery, inpatient medical beds and services for children.

It is a vital part of the health care system for the area which includes the acute hospital being built at Wolff Lough near Enniskillen.

The Minister also emphasised his commitment to maintaining services at Tyrone County Hospital, saying: “The people of Omagh deserve high quality, safe, sustainable services. It will be important during this transition period that appropriate services are maintained.”
