David Healy joint top goal scorer

Northern Ireland football hero David Healy is at the top of the UEFA Euro 2008 goal scorer’s table.

The Leeds United striker is tied with Germany’s Lukas Podolski, following his second hat-trick of the tournament against Liechtenstein on Saturday.

He also scored three goals against Latvia in October.

Healy is the all-time record scorer for Northern Ireland, with 27 goals out of 55 matches.

Commenting on the news, he said: “I consider it an honour to play for my country, and to be joint top scorer for the tournament so far is a great thing.

“Northern Ireland play as a team and I get great service. I’m really pleased we are doing well for the fans and we hope we can continue to do so for the remainder of the qualifying games.”

Northern Ireland are currently second in Group F and will play group leaders Sweden in Windsor Park in Belfast tomorrow evening.
