Banbridge DUP member quits over power-sharing
A seventh Democratic Unionist Councillor has resigned over the party's decision to enter a power-sharing government with Sinn Fein.
Banbridge Councillor Stephen Herron said he was saddened at having to make the decision, but he was unable to support the the deal.
Yesterday Ballymena Mayor James Alexander and Councillor Robin Stirling told a council meeting they were leaving the party.
Mr Alexander said he was leaving because he thought the DUP was rushing into government with Sinn Fein.
“It was too early to power-share with them, the weeks they have given them is ridiculous compared with the 30-odd years of conflict,” he said.
The total of councillors who have left the party is seven - five in Ballymena, one in Ballymoney and one in Banbridge.

A founding member of the Democratic Unionist Party has resigned following the party’s decision to share power with Sinn Fein. Roy Gillespie is the third member to resign in recent weeks. Confirmation that Mr Gillespie and his wife Ruby were leaving the party was provided in a letter sent to Ian Paisley Jr.

Democratic Unionist Party MEP Jim Allister has announced his resignation today. Mr Allister, a fierce critic of the plans for the DUP to power-share with Sinn Fein, has made the announcement at a news conference in east Belfast. “It is with immense sadness that I must resign from the DUP,” he said.

Farmer Dies In Slurry Accident
An inquiry is under way into the death of a farmer in a slurry accident. William McMillan, 43, died yesterday afternoon while at work at the family farm on the Redhill Road in Dromore. It is understood he fell into a pit of the thick liquid fertiliser, which is made up of unusable organic matter and animal waste.

Sinn Fein councillor targeted in petrol bomb attack
The home of a Sinn Fein councillor has been targeted in a petrol bomb attack overnight. Councillor Dessie Ward was inside his Edenderry Park home in Banbridge with his mother and younger brother when the device was thrown at the property at around 11.45pm.
