Men charged over mortar bomb

Two men have been charged with conspiring to murder members of the security forces.

The charges relate to the discovery of a live mortar bomb in County Armagh. It was discovered, complete with a launching tube, close to a railway line near the Cornakinnegar Road, Lurgan on 5 April.

The pair, aged 22 and 23, have also been charged with possession of an improvised explosive device and possession of articles likely to be of use to terrorists.

Detectives probing the discovery of the mortar arrested the men yesterday and they were questioned last night at Antrim's Serious Crime Suite.

The men are expected to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court this afternoon.
