Man receives gun shot wounds in Derry attack

A man and woman who were badly injured following an assault in Londonderry had been abducted hours before in County Westmeath.

The 42-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were found at High Park in Creggan at around 5:00am. They had been taken from their home in Mullingar between 8:00pm and 9:00pm on Monday evening and driven more than 120 miles.

They were both believed to be suffering from “extensive injuries” and the man had sustained gun shot wounds to both his ankles

Detectives on both sides of the border are currently working together to investigate the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and assault.

A house in Mullingar and another in Southend Park in the Brandywell area of Derry are both being searched by police.

Two men are currently helping police with their enquiries.
