Unsigned local band to play Glastonbury
After only one year gaining rave reviews across the Irish music scene, unsigned Belfast ‘folk noir’ band The Winding Stair have been confirmed to play the Glastonbury Music Festival in June 2007.
The band were personally invited to play the festival by organisers earlier this year.
On Sunday 24 June The Winding Stair will appear third on the bill at the prestigious Acoustic Tent.
Hard work and true musical verve have gained the band emphatic respect from gig goers across Ireland. The national press has hailed their work as ‘Breathtaking’; ‘A revelation’ and ‘Endlessly inventive.’ A mix of acoustic folk with darkly classical elements, their sound is unique.
The respected Acoustic Tent at Glastonbury Festival has in the past played host to artists like Tori Amos, Portishead, Robert Plant and Marianne Faithful. This year’s lineup at the tent is headlined by Damien Rice.
The Winding Stair will join the likes of Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Bjork and Bloc Party to play the festival.
The band will also headline Belfast’s Gifted club at The Empire on Thursday 14 June.

The Stendahl Festival, based in Limavady, Co L'Derry, will see 2,500 music lovers enjoy performances from the likes of Irish folk band Beoga, popstar Lyra and over 60 other musicians, comedians and family performers.

Strathfoyle Play Park Closed Due To Significant Arson Damage
Derry City and Strabane District Council has announced the closure of Strathfoyle Play following an arson attack that resulted in significant damage to its play equipment. The incident occurred overnight on Wednesday, 14th May, and is being treated by authorities as a deliberate act of vandalism.

Alliance Secures Action On Delivery of Inclusive Play Parks
Belfast City Council has agreed to begin work on the delivery of inclusive play across the city following a proposal from Alliance. Alliance Councillor Ross McMullan said no children should have the daily experience of exclusion from city and neighbourhood play parks.
