NI First Minister to meet Salmond

Northern Ireland First Minister Ian Paisley has announced he is looking forward to working with his Scottish equivalent, Alex Salmond.

He also revealed Mr Salmond will be travelling to meet him within weeks.

The DUP leader described Mr Salmond as “a clever man” and said his work “turning round politics in Scotland is really a miracle.”

Mr Paisley continued: “I was talking to him on the phone and he’s going to come over to Northern Ireland and have a chat with us about things.

“There are things Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have in common that if we go to the British Government in harness, we will get more out of them.”

Mr Paisley said he expected the Scottish First Minister to visit Northern Ireland within weeks once he had dealt with the immediate problems he faced in the new administration.

He also said Mr Salmond wants “the Queen to remain as Queen of Scotland.

“That shows the difference between their type of nationalism in Scotland and our type of nationalism in Ireland.”
