Psychiatrist charged over daughter's murder

A 46-year-old woman has been charged with murdering her teenage daughter at their family home in Kilkenny on 26 November 2006.

Lynn Gibbs, a psychiatrist from Killure, Gowran, County Kilkenny appeared at Dun Laoghaire District Court today. She made no reply when charged with the murder of her 16-year-old daughter Ciara.

Her father, Gerry and her brother who had just returned from an overnight trip discovered her in the bath, but attempts to resuscitate her failed.

Mrs Gibbs was also found collapsed near her daughter’s body.

Judge Clare Leonard ordered her to appear before the court on 29 May.

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. A new pilot scheme to film the deliver of judgments in the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland, has been announced by the Lady Chief Justice, Dame Siobhan Keegan. It is understood that during the pilot scheme, none of the judgements will be broadcast, but the filming used to test the process and inform future decisions.
