£1.3m aerospace investment in Fermanagh

Invest Northern Ireland have today announced its support for a £1.3 million investment by Sloane Helicopters, which will see the UK firm establish a major facility in Fermanagh.

Based at St Angelo Airport in Enniskillen, Sloane Helicopters will service the growing Republic of Ireland helicopter market with its specialist maintenance, overhaul and design service.

Invest NI has offered support of £129,000 towards the project which will help the company with export marketing activities and staff training.

The investment will promote 12 highly-skilled jobs.

Jenny Awenat, Managing Director of Sloane Helicopters said: “Enniskillen offers us the perfect location to set up our all-Ireland base. Not only will Sloane’s be in close proximity to the RoI market, we will also be able to utilise the infrastructure provided at St Angelo’s Airport to facilitate our operations.

“In addition, the quality of the workforce will clearly add value to our business. Invest NI and Fermanagh District Council have been instrumental in helping us to bring this project to Northern Ireland and we look forward to working closely with both organisations in the future to develop this new base.”

Ian Murphy, Managing Director of Clients and Entrepreneurship at Invest NI added: “Sloane Helicopters is a respected firm within the UK and RoI aerospace sector. Attracting this calibre of company with such a specialist market focus in Northern Ireland is a boost for the Fermanagh region and the wider economy.”

Ireland now has more helicopters per head of population than Britain or the US – the two largest civil helicopter markets in the world.
