‘Snow’ stopping Belfast International this winter

Belfast International Airport has announced a £266,000 investment in new state-of-the-art snow equipment, which will further enhance BIA’s capability to deal with all aspects of winter operations.

BIA’s investment is the first phase of what will be a total replacement of all winter-related vehicles and equipment, with further acquisitions planned during 2003.

The new snow equipment aims to reduce operational disruption at BIA and the risk of closure during the winter season.

Commenting on the new purchases, Albert Harrison, Managing Director, Belfast International Airport said: “The purchase of this equipment emphasises our commitment, as Northern Ireland’s leading airport, to the safety of NI air passengers and to our airline customers, as well as to the environment. The winter seasons of 2000 and 2001 brought extreme weather conditions to NI, and so the latest snow technology is an essential asset in maintaining our 24 hour, all weather operation.

“Over 3.5 million people fly though BIA safely every year. Passenger safety is of paramount importance to us all year round and we can assure air travellers that, as manifested through our investment in new equipment, technology, procedures and training, we remain committed to providing the highest levels of customer service possible.”
