Robinson steps down from council
Assembly Finance Minister Peter Robinson has resigned from his seat on Castlereagh Borough Council.
Mr Robinson cited a conflict of interest with his role as Finance Minister for his decision to resign from the council where he has held a seat for 30 years.
The Democratic Unionist Party deputy party leader said that he wished to focus on the Finance Minister post and did not feel that it was appropriate for him to hold posts in both local and regional government.
Mr Robinson said that his party would be seeking to co-opt former local government officer Lawrence Walker to his seat on the council.
