Dublin murder inquiry after man dies
A murder investigation has been launched in Dublin after the death of a 37-year-old man on Monday.
Anthony Byrne, originally from Drimnagh, was attacked by a group of men at Mercer Street Upper on Thursday January 18.
Gardaí revealed he had been knocked to the ground and seriously assaulted at around 11:50pm after he left a flat in the Mercer Street Flat Complex. He was later taken to St James’ Hosptial.
A number of people were arrested and subsequently arrested as a result of the attack and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Police are particularly keen to speak to taxi drivers who may have been working in the area at the time.

Teenager attacked at north Belfast flat
An 18-year-old has been attacked in his Antrim Road home in north Belfast. The attack took place on Wednesday evening when the victim awoke after hearing banging on the front door of his flat. When he answered he was confronted by around five men who proceeded to kick, punch and slash him with broken bottles.

Stab Death Victim Named
A 38-year-old woman remains in custody today being questioned in connection with the death of Anthony Robin, 44, who was attacked and fatally stabbed in a flat in Fitzroy Avenue early this morning. Mr Robin was injured at about 3.30am on Monday and later died in hospital from his injuries.

O2 to reduce cross-border roaming charges
Mobile Phone Company O2 has today announced that it is to abolish roaming charges for mobile phone users living close to the border. This means that from April this year, the 1.6 million O2 customers can travel across the border without being charged more to make or receive calls.

Stranded boys rescued by lifeboat near Millisle
Two boys have been rescued off the Co Down coast after they became stranded on rocks on the Ards Peninsula. The boys, aged 12 and 14, got into trouble on Wednesday off the beach at Millisle but were eventually picked up by a Donaghadee lifeboat at around 10.30pm. The teenagers were stranded on rocks which had been surrounded by the incoming tide.
