Kernan steps down from Orchard hot seat
Armagh manager Joe Kernan has stepped down from the Orchard County hot seat following six years in charge.
Kernan led Armagh to their first ever All-Ireland victory in 2002 with a nail-biting win over Kerry. However, one year later, Kernan and his team failed to retain the Sam Maguire when fellow Ulster side Tyrone prevailed in a close encounter.
Kernan was first involved with Armagh at county level when he was assistant to Paddy Moriarty in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s before his hugely successful reign as manager at Crossmaglen Rangers.
During his time as Armagh boss, Kernan added four Ulster titles and a National League to his solitary All-Ireland title.
“I’d like to think we were successful – people maybe think that we underachieved and if we did then so be it,” he said, reflecting on his time in charge.
