Five arrested following County Down assault

Five people were arrested yesterday in connection with the assault of two men in the Rostrevor area of County Down, shortly before 2.30am on Tuesday morning.

The men were walking along the Kilbroney Road in Rostrevor when the gang attacked them.

The men were taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries. Their condition is described as stable.

The Kilbroney Road was closed following the incident but has since reopened and the five people arrested are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Police have asked for anybody with information to come forward, especially the driver and passengers of a taxi which had stopped at a junction on Kilbroney Road during the incident.

Man Arrested For Headbutting Female Police Officer
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Newry for assaulting a police officer. While responding to a domestic related report, a local female officer was headbutted to the head, which caused swelling and bruising. The officer was seen by medical staff and her injuries were not more serious and she felt well enough to remain on duty.
