Police attacked during drugs search

Police have come under attack in Londonderry as they carried out a drugs search at a house in the Brandywell area.

Officers were attacked with petrol bombs, fireworks, stones and bottles and two of the officer’s sustained minor injuries.

A 51-year-old man is expected to appear in court today facing charges of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

During the search on Saturday evening police seized cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine.

Local residents gathered on Sunday to emphasise their support for the PSNI’s attempts to tackle the drugs problem in the area and Sinn Fein MLA Martina Anderson said that both the PSNI and people in the area needed to address the issue.
