UNICEF warns NI of bogus email
UNICEF has warned people of a bogus email requesting personal information that is circulating in Northern Ireland.
The email promises a 10% commission for taking the role of ‘cashier’ and holding funds from the US.
A UNICEF spokeswoman said that it was a shame that people would want to do this type of thing and that it is not the fault of the charity but the fault of the perpetrators.
Some of the information requested included name, address, phone number, nationality, age and occupation.
The email was also sent to Mid-Ulster Assemblyman Patsy McGlone by somebody claiming to be from the “co-ordinator desk” at UNICEF.
Mr McGlone said that it is a disgrace that somebody would try to exploit the name of a worthwhile organisation in such a way and that if people receive the e-mail that they should contact the police or UNICEF.
The charity appealed for people to remain alert to email addresses which do not look official, this case involved a Yahoo site, and contact them if there was any concern.
