Belfast Man Couriered Drugs In T-shirts

A 23-year-old Belfast man has been jailed for three years and nine months after he was caught with £200,000 of cannabis hidden among T-shirts.

Keith Jones of Willowbank Gardens on the Antrim road, North Belfast admitted to the offence on 1 October 2006.

Mr Jones was stopped at the Stena Line embarkation point in Stranraer with the drugs as he was making his way to Northern Ireland.

The court heard that Mr Jones, who was out of work at the time, would be paid £200 to drive a vehicle from Belfast to Stranraer before making the return journey.

Lord Macphail told Mr Jones that although he was acting as a courier and was to receive only a small amount of money that couriers must accept full responsibility for being an integral part of the drugs trade.

Lord Macphail also ordered the forfeiture of a VW Caravelle vehicle that Mr Jones was travelling in when he was detained.
