Folk Musician Tommy Makem Dies

Tommy Makem, the acclaimed folk musician and singer from County Armagh has died at the age of 74.

He died at his home in Dover, New Hampshire in the US and had been suffering from lung cancer.

Tommy was born and raised in Keady, County Armagh before moving to the US in the 1950s were he teamed up with the Clancy Brothers who at the time were signed to Columbia Records.

The group, known as The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, split up in 1969 as Tommy pursued a solo career but later joined Liam Clancy to become Makem and Clancy.

Tommy Makem then went solo again in 1988 and was best known for popular songs such as The Green Fields of France, Red is the Rose and Gentle Annie.

Appeal For Two Boys Missing In Portrush Area
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information on the whereabouts of two you boys believed to be in the Portrush area. 12-year-old Kai Mitchell from the Carrickfergus area, and 15-year-old Tommy Scorer from Portrush, are believed to be together.

Boy Pleaded With 'UDA' Attackers
A loyalist paramilitary organisation that recently decommissioned weapons has been blamed for an attack on a nine-year-old boy's home. The finger is being pointed at the UDA in Rathcoole by local mum, Lisa Moore, who said this morning she would have to move away from the area.

Continuity IRA admit planting Dungannon firebomb
The Continuity IRA has admitted to planting a firebomb outside a supermarket in Dungannon on Monday night. The device, which was found inside a refuse bin at a Tesco supermarket, was described by police as "crude but effective". The device consisted of flammable liquid attached to a domestic gas cylinder.

Road traffic accident claims woman's life
A woman has died following a road traffic accident in Co Fermanagh early this morning. The 40-year-old woman was driving along the Loughshore Road between Enniskillen and Belleek when her vehicle was involved in a collision with another car at around 1am on Monday morning.

Man dies in County Armagh collision
One man has died following a road traffic collision in County Armagh yesterday evening. The incident happened shortly after 8pm on the Mullaghbrack Road close to the Markethill area, where it is understood that a car and a lorry collided. No one else was injured in the incident. The victim has not yet been named.
