Aer Lingus Staff In Belfast To Get Less
Claims that employees at the new Belfast International Airport hub for Aer Lingus will not be paid the same rates as staff south of the border have not been disputed by the airline.
Aer Lingus announced on Tuesday that it is to create more than 100 jobs as they launch new flights to eight destinations from the Aldergrove airport.
An Aer Lingus spokesman said that the airline will offer competitive local market rates and that Aer Lingus is currently involved in a detailed process to address unsustainable costs in its existing operations.
Trade union Impact has raised concerns over pay difference between Belfast and Aer Lingus employees elsewhere on the island of Ireland.
A spokesperson for Impact said: “Impact is anxious to ensure that all staff employed at the Belfast base receive no less favourable pay and conditions than existing staff.”
Aer Lingus's Belfast investment means that flights between Shannon and Heathrow will stop with at least 40 resultant job losses anticipated.
