The 'Black Pearl' Docks In Londonderry

The HMS Bounty, which stars as the Black Pearl in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, has docked in Londonderry.

The ship, famously captained by Johnny Depp in the maritime adventure movie, has made an unscheduled stop in the port.

The vessel was built in 1962 for the film Mutiny on the Bounty, starring Marlon Brando, and the stopover will facilitate essential repairs ahead of a UK tour.

The tall ship, which is US-based, will be open to the public between 10.00am and 5.00pm on Saturday.

The famous ship is three days ahead of schedule, which is why a stopover in Londonderry was required before it travels on to Maryport in Cumbria.

The height of the ship meant that the mast had to be lowered to allow it to get into Queen’s Quay on Wednesday. The ship will remain there until Sunday.
