NI Property Possession Actions Decrease
The number of people in Northern Ireland getting into mortgage repayment difficulties is falling despite the constantly rising interest rates, according to new figures from the Court Service.
The number of actions for possession taken between April and June this year were at their lowest level for four years according to statistics released by the Court Service on Friday.
During the quarter, 584 writs and originating summonses were issued, a reduction of 5 per cent on the same quarter last year. Over the last quarter, the courts disposed of 338 cases.
In 2006 there were 2,523 writs and summonses relating to mortgage issues before the court, a drop of 2 per cent on the previous year.

Rise in NI unemployment figures

While the price of a house in Northern Ireland will have dropped by a total of £75,000 by the end of this year, taking the average price of a house here to £175,000, that is in line with the current UK-wide figure - now said to be £178,555.
