Coleraine Man Snatches Gold In Munich

Coleraine man Richard Chambers has won a gold medal at the World Championships in Munich following victory in the lightweight fours section on Sunday.

Chambers and his Great Britain team-mates beat France into second place with the Italians finishing third.

Chambers and his crew, Paul Mattick, James Clarke and James Lindsey-Flynn are in their first season as a crew and Chambers said that their next big target is the Beijing Olympics and that there are exciting times ahead.

However, there was disappointment for another Coleraine man in the same class.

Richard Archibald and his Irish crew only managed to finish sixth in the B final when a top five finish would have ensured qualification for next year’s Olympics.
