Cross-Border Talks On Transport

Ministerial level cross-border talks are to take place today (Friday) focusing on all-Ireland road safety and transport issues.

Ireland's Transport Minister Noel Dempsey, will attend talks in Enniskillen with NI Assembly Environment Minister Arlene Foster and Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy.

Topics under discussion are likely to include cross-border driver bans and the mutual application of penalty points on driving licences.

While these are wider European Union issues and are under discussion in the European Parliament, Ministers are keen to see the introduction of effective cross-border measures to ensure recognition of penalty points and driving bans.

Also under discussion will be improvements to the Belfast-Dublin rail link.
