New Proposals By Aer Lingus To End Pilots' Row
Aer Lingus has issued a new proposal to pilots in an attempt to bring the row over the company's planned Belfast base to an end.
It is understood that accommodations will be made for pilots wanting to be based at the new hub in Belfast and an amended pension plan.
Aer Lingus management has reportedly offered to let pilots move to Belfast permanently or for a period of up to five years without having to resign.
Pilots who move on secondment for three to five years will be allowed to retain membership of their defined-benefit scheme.
However, the airline's management remains adamant that those pilots in Belfast will still have to work at local pay rates.
It is now expected pilots will issue counter proposals following this latest bid.
The new base in Belfast is expected to begin operating on December 10.

Aer Lingus pilots have voted to accept an agreement that will allow the company to operate its new Belfast hub. The deal was finally agreed between the Irish Airline Pilots' Association and the airline's management at the Labour Relations Commission on Monday, leaving Aer Lingus ready for take-off from Belfast after all.

Aer Lingus pilots accept new working time deal
Over 90% of Aer Lingus pilots have voted to accept a new deal with management over their working hours. Pilots have been on strike from last week following a one-day strike on Thursday which has resulted in over 100,000 passengers being affected.

Industrial action over a pay dispute by Aer Lingus pilots in Belfast that was ready for take-off as early as Friday morning may now be close to settlement. It has emerged this afternoon that the threat of action by the pilots in Belfast could soon be withdrawn after a set of proposals was worked out by the unions and the airline.
