Policeman Injured By Brick

A police officer was taken to hospital last night after a brick was thrown through the window of the police vehicle he was driving.

The incident happened at around 9.45pm in Newtownards, as he was turning into Beverley Road from the Manse Road in the town.

The injured officer remained in hospital overnight after receiving a wound to the back of his head.

Condemning the attack, Inspector Alan McKeown said: "The people behind this attack obviously have no respect for anyone. Not only has one of my officers been injured but the safety of the pollutants were also put at risk as the vehicle could have gone out of control."

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
