€2m Worth Of Heroin Seized

One man has been arrested following the seizure of €2m worth of heroin in Dublin.

The drugs were discovered by Gardaí in a car stopped in Clondalkin at around 7pm on Monday evening as part of Operation Anvil.

The 8kg of heroin was intercepted as part of a surveillance operation by the special detective unit targeting a organised crime in the Dublin area.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and is being questioned at Clondalkin Garda Station.

Heroin report cause for 'deep concern'
An assembly member has said the report out yesterday which revealed there are up to 1,000 ‘problem heroin users’ in Northern Ireland was a cause for deep concern. SDLP health spokesperson Annie Courtney said she was “dismayed” by the findings of the report which was commissioned by the Drug and Alcohol Unit of the Department of Health.

Drugs seized in south Dublin
A number of people have been arrested in a series of raids in south Dublin. Over 30 houses were raided and 15 people arrested in the Tallaght area and heroin, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an air rifle were seized by gardai. Of those arrested, there were 13 men and two women, aged between 18-35.

Man Arrested Over Suspected Heroin Seizure
A man has been arrested after police seized suspected heroin from a property in Newry. A laptop and mobile phone were also taken by police during the search in the Drumalane area on Thursday. The substance was secreted about the suspects person, according to the PSNI. A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Class A drugs.

Report details depth of heroin problem in NI
A scientific study has for the first time documented the extent of the heroin problem in Northern Ireland. The report commissioned by the Drug and Alcohol Unit of the Department of Health, "Prevalence of Problem Heroin Use in Northern Ireland" shows that up to 1,000 people are ‘problem heroin users’.
