Toddler Hospitalised After Car Plunges Into Canal

A two-year-old boy has been seriously injured after his family car plunged into Newry Canal yesterday afternoon.

It is understood the car swerved off the road to avoid an oncoming vehicle on the Omeath Road at around 2.30pm.

There were three other family members in the car at the time of the incident, who were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

After being taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry, the toddler was transferred to the Royal Victoria after it is believed he started suffering breathing difficulties.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.
