Economic Cooperation On Agenda

The Assembly Economy Minister Nigel Dodds has met his Scottish counterpart, Minister of Enterprise, Energy and Tourism, Jim Mather, to discuss economic co-operation between the two regions.

Following the meeting in the Scottish Parliament Buildings in Edinburgh, Mr Dodds said that he was keen to build on the joint agreement signed in June by the First and Deputy Deputy First Ministers and Scotland's First Minister.

"This agreement showed a strong commitment between the two devolved administrations to work more closely together and consolidate our social, educational and cultural relationships.

"Significant links already exist between Scotland and Northern Ireland in business and education and there are further opportunities for cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology and renewable energy," he said.

"Tourism is a further key area where we can collaborate more closely with Scotland, through the tourism group of the British-Irish Council.

"I am very encouraged by last night's meeting and I look forward to greater economic co-operation between our two countries," concluded Mr Dodds.
