'Love Ulster' Dublin Rally Shelved
Following a meeting with the Irish Foreign Minister proposals to hold a controversial 'Love Ulster' rally in Dublin have been withdrawn by organisers.
The event last year resulted in riots in Dublin City centre as Gardaí found themselves overwhelmed when a counter demonstration staged by republican protestors led to violent scenes.
Lagan Valley MP Jeffery Donaldson prompted the talks, between Willie Frazer of the Families Acting for Innocent Relatives (FAIR) group and Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern.
Mr Frazer said that he did not think any more requests to hold rallies in Dublin would be made. He said that he was satisfied that a dialogue regarding the victims of republican violence in border areas had begun with the Irish government.
The rally held last year was abandoned as fireworks and stones were thrown.
Gardaí made over 40 arrests as the disturbance spilled out into areas adjacent to Dublin's busy O'Connell Street shopping precinct.
