£6m package for voluntary services announced
The NIO Finance Minister has unveiled plans for the allocation of up to £6m to provide support to vital services in the community and voluntary sector.
The Minister, Ian Pearson, explained that just before suspension the Executive agreed to allocate up to £6m from the Executive Programme Funds to be used to alleviate the continuing funding difficulties facing the sector.
He added: “The availability of this additional funding provides an opportunity to help meet immediate pressures on services provided by the community and voluntary sector while at the same time helping to provide space to begin to address longer-term issues of sustainability in the sector."
Among the services which may benefit from the allocation are: community development and capacity building; community relations and equality work; education training and lifelong learning; work with children and young people; community arts; cultural programmes and activities; sexual, mental and emotional health; and well being services.
Mr Pearson said the purpose of the funding initiative was to ensure that worthwhile services provided by the community and voluntary sector can be maintained in the short-term until an agreed longer-term strategy is in place.
The Minister said it was hoped that the process would be concluded by late autumn, though this would be dependent on the level of demand.
A public notice has been placed in three Northern Ireland daily newspapers containing details about the application process.

£688 million has been announced to prioritise public sector pay awards, Finance Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald MLA has announced. The allocation was part of the £1.045bn available from the Executive Restoration package for general pressures and pay in 2023-24. Some £22 million of resource funding was also available from the Executive’s own funds.

Finance Minister Committed To Delivering Public Sector Pay Award
New Finance Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, has committed to delivering a public sector pay award that will reflect "the vital role they play in delivering public services". The Minister has held her first official meeting with civil service trade unions – NIPSA, FDA, Unite and GMB – to discuss the issues affecting public services.
