Duo Charged With Killing Lithuanian Man

Two men from Lithuania have been charged with the murder of a 20-year-old fellow countryman in Dungannon at the weekend.

Ricardas Stronkus, 20, and Vaidotas Stirbys, 18, both denied the charges of the murder of Donatas Veleeka.

A solicitor representing Mr Stirbys said that his client accepted CCTV evidence that showed his client striking Mr Veleeka, who had then walked away. However, he said that a third party had been involved in a second assault at another location.

An application for bail was granted for Mr Stirbys.

Mr Stronkas was remanded in custody, to appear before magistrates next week.

Mr Veleeka who lived at the Willows in the town, was originally from Lithuania.

He was beaten up in the early hours of Sunday morning outside an off-licence in Scotch Street, Dungannon. He died on Tuesday afternoon, having been placed on a life support machine.
