Jobs To Be Lost In Shannon And Nass
Two multinational firms have announced plans to lay off a total of 130 workers in Co Clare and Co Kildare.
The US firm Thomson Financial says it will be shedding 80 jobs in Shannon as part of a plan to move operations to India.
Cemex based in Naas, County Kildare, has announced plans to close completely, resulting in the loss of 50 jobs.
The Mexican-based building materials firm says the facility is no longer sustainable due to the downturn in the housing sector.
However SIPTU, which represents workers at the plant, says it is still profitable.

Pharma Jobs Boost For Carlow
Around 60 new jobs are to be created in Carlow by the pharmaceutical facility, Merck Sharp & Dohme. The recession-beating jobs are the result of the construction of a new €20m vaccines and biologics facility in the town this year. The firm says 170 people will be employed when the facility opens in 2011.
