Rally Diverted From Omagh Relative's Home
Part of this week’s World Rally Championships is to be shortened – to take account of the tragedy in Omagh – where an entire family has been killed in a house fire.
The organisers of Rally Ireland have announced they have reduced one of this Saturday's stages.
The decision to change the route was because it lies near the home of a close relative of the family that died in Monday morning's house fire - and they feared disturbing the grieving family.
Spectators planning to attend viewing areas near the Co Fermanagh village of Lack (off the B4) are being advised to head to Drumquin (off the B84) instead.
Meanwhile, the world's top rally drivers are beginning to arrive in the north-west for the inaugural Rally Ireland.
The high-profile part of the event gets underway with a super special stage in Stormont on Thursday evening.
Spectators will be keen to see the battle between Marcul Gronholm – who currently leads the world – and Sebastien Loeb, who is four points behind with just two rallies left this season.

The latest visitor statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), show a very strong performance on trips, nights and spend by Republic of Ireland residents in Northern Ireland in the first nine months of 2023.
