UUP MLA condemns bomb attack on police station
A nail bomb attack, in which a device was thrown into the grounds of a police station in Co Tyrone has been condemned by local Ulster Unionist MLA, Derek Hussey.
The coffee jar type device, which was made safe by army technical officers, was found in the grounds of Castlederg Police station on Sunday.
Mr Hussey said the incident was "a deliberate attempt to maim and kill police officers" and was "blatant attempted murder".
While no organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack, Mr Hussey was in no doubt where the blame lay.
He said: "Over the weekend we heard words from the IRA saying that they poised no threat to the peace process. Their actions on the ground, as evidenced by the Castlederg incident, show their words to be meaningless."
A police spokesman said the device was believed to have been thrown over the perimeter wall.
The intention, the spokesman said, was that it would detonate on impact causing death or serious injury.
A number of items have been taken away for forensic testing.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

A van used in the shooting of Randalstown PSNI station on Wednesday evening is believed to have been the vehicle stolen earlier in the evening from a family who were held hostage by a gang of men at a house in Craigstown Road in the town.

Man Arrested Over 1975 Bomb Attack
A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal bomb attack on a bar on the Shankill Road over 36 years ago. Five people were killed and 60 others were injured in the attack at Mountainview Tavern on 5 April 1975. The 54-year-old is being questioned at Antrim police station.
